How to submit an ETA application to Sri Lanka
ETA application can be submitted using one of the following options:
By the applicant
By Third party
At Visitor service Centre
At Sri Lanka Overseas Missions
At the head office of the Department of Immigration and Emigration (DI&E), Colombo
On arrival at the port of entry in Sri Lanka
An intended traveller planning a holiday visit, a short business trip or to transit through, needs to apply and obtain an ETA prior to arrival in Sri Lanka.
The types of ETA:
- ETA for Tourist purpose with double entry for 30 (thirty) days
- ETA for Business purpose with multiple entry for 30 (thirty) days
- ETA for Transit up to 02 days ONLY for free of charge
How to obtain Business Purposes ETA
Business ETA can be obtained only from;
Sri Lanka Overseas Missions
The head office of the Department of Immigration and Emigration (DI&E), Colombo
On arrival at the port of entry to Sri Lanka
Number of entries for Business ETA
Multiple, Double or single entry business ETA can be obtained from Sri Lanka Overseas Missions and the head office of the Department of Immigration and Emigration (DI&E), Colombo.
Only a Double entry business ETA can be obtained from on arrival at the port of entry to Sri Lanka
NB : The traveler should produce relevant documents in proof of his business visit to Sri Lanka when submitting the application.
How to obtain ETA for Media/Journalist activities
ETA is not available on line for the under mentioned purposes:
To participate in Media/Journalist conferences, workshops or seminars etc.,
To engage in Meetings, Seminars, Conferences etc., with Political parties and groups;
To engage in the activities carried out by the NGO or INGO.
Approval of the appropriate authorities of the Government of Sri Lanka should be obtained by those who intend to engage in above purposes in Sri Lanka.
Potential applicants may obtain the relevant visa by submitting proof of evidence from Sri Lanka Overseas missions and from the Visa Section of the Department of Immigration & Emigration, Colombo.
Steps to be followed:
Submit the application.
Receive the acknowledgement.
Receive ETA approval or a referral notice. If a referral notice is served, you may contact Department of Immigration and Emigration for the necessary ETA.
Submission of ETA application by the applicant.
If you are planning a short visit to Sri Lanka, you can submit your ETA application online to the Department of Immigration & Emigration.
Steps to be followed:
Click on the Apply button and fill in the ETA application. Pay the relevant ETA processing fee using your electronic payment cards (credit card/e-commerce enabled debit cards) and submit the application. Only Visa, Master and American Express Cards are accepted. If you are unable to pay by electronic payment cards (credit card/e-commerce enabled debit cards), you have to select one of the alternative options. Apply If your application is successfully submitted, you will receive an acknowledgment promptly.
