Finding the Right Accommodation Sri Lanka
Whether you are going to Sri Lanka for your honeymoon or for backpacking you will find accommodation to match. The island offers a wide range of accommodation including five star hotels, luxury boutique hotels, colonial style hotels as well as a wide choice of cheaper accommodation including guest houses.
Many people find it easier to fix their accommodation in advance. This is easy to do either by using a specialist tour operator or by booking yourself via the internet. Some tour operators have pre-determined holidays where the itinerary and accompanying hotel accommodation are fixed. Others allow you to tailor make your own trip. You specify which areas of the island you would like to visit and the style of accommodation you are looking for and they will fix everything up for you.
The internet makes it easy for those who are looking to sort out their own itinerary and travel around the island to book hotels in advance. However this only applies to the more expensive end of the market as they are the ones who have international websites and booking systems. If you are planning to stay in guest houses then it is best to arrange your accommodation on arrival. It should be noted though that prices for higher end accommodation are cheaper in Sri Lanka than in Europe and service levels are exceptional.
Many people arrange for a driver to take them around the island when they are visiting Sri Lanka. It is relatively inexpensive and allows you to tailor make your itinerary. If you give your driver an approximate budget they will be able to suggest and arrange an appropriate hotel for you. Alternatively if you arrive in a new town or area, particularly by the beach you can be sure that there will be a number of touts looking to recommend accommodation for you. Don`t let the fact that they are probably working on commission put you off, nearly all hotels and guest houses will have touts operating for them.
Word of mouth is one of the best recommendations of all. Travelling around Sri Lanka you will soon find that you meet with other travellers. They may well have a recommendation of where you should stay on the next point of your travels.
If you would rather not stay in a hotel but would like to have the privacy and flexibility of your own house then you can look into private villa rental. The advantages of a private villa include a private pool, a garden of your own and plenty of room. The disadvantage would be having a fixed location when the scenery and activities of Sri Lanka are so varied and there are so many areas worth visiting on any trip to the island.
