Direct flights to Colombo from Ukrainian Airline
Ukraine’s second largest air carrier- AeroSvit Airlines, have just started direct flights from Kiev to Colombo from Sunday, 23 October. The first flight from Ukraine, landed in Bandaranayake nternational Airport on Sunday with 214 passengers and crew on board. The group was warmly welcomed by the official representatives of Sri Lanka Tourism Promotions Bureau at the arrival lounge of the BIA, with garlands and traditional dance performance.
Ukraine’s AeroSvit carrier is presently flying to 33 countries, covering over 80 international routes. To cater to the increasing demand for holiday destination Sri Lanka , with tourist arrivals from Ukraine thriving to 5,634 this year, a 45.3 % growth, AeroSvit has decided to enter to the Sri Lankan skies with the aim of facilitating large number of Ukranian nationals as well as expected high tourist traffic generated from countries in North America, Europe and the Middle East.
Flights will operate thrice weekly between Kiev and Colombo. With the wide body Boeing 767-300ER aircraft on the route, configured with 24 business-class and 207 economy-class seats, the carrier will increase frequencies to Sri Lanka in the very near future based on the fluctuation of demand in various seasons.
The achivement is a result of the efforts made by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow and Sri Lanka Tourism who have together launched a programme early this year, to attract more tourists from Ukraine which was identified as a high potential tourist destination. The new direct flight operations will benefit travelers and the tourism sector companies alike, for their participation at travel and tourism fairs in Ukraine such as Ukraine International Travel and Tourism Exhibition (UITT) and International Ukraine Travel Market (Ukraine) etc. As a result this will provide more opportunities for tourism industry in Sri Lanka to create tourist traffic from Ukraine and the Eastern Europe.
